Announcing a new and improved JubakPicks.com starting tomorrow morning, November 11.
It’s been busy what with launching a subscription site (Jubakam.com) and a mutual fund. And, of course, there’s that stock-picking thing.
But I just want you to know that we haven’t forgotten the free site, JubakPicks.com. We’ve been hard at work on some improvements to the site that I hope you’ll find useful and fun.
And they will be going live tomorrow morning.
What have we added?
A live stock ticker at the top of the page that gives you constantly updated prices on the stocks in my three portfolios at JubakPicks.com. (Tip of the programming hat on this to Hugh.)
A box full of market headlines so you won’t lose track of market events when you lose yourself in my scintillating prose.
A stock ticker box that gives you more than just a ticker and a price. You’ll see volume, a price-to-earnings ratio, dividend information and more. Tomorrow put in a ticker, click, and see what happens.
And we’ve finally given in and added some advertising from Google. Got to pay those pesky electric bills if you’re going to run a website.
Amazingly enough, we haven’t eliminated anything. Just crammed more in. (A tip of the design hat to Lesley who has worked to reduce the clutter on the site and increase its clarity.)
Let me know if there’s something that doesn’t work. Or something that you’d like to see in the next go round.
And as always, thanks for reading.
When I view the site in Firefox (3.6.12), the link to the watch list (in the Jim’s Stock Portfolios section) does not appear. However, it does appear when viewing in IE 8 (using the same size browser window). Firefox does show the links to the other three portfolios.
Hats off to you, Jim! You are the one steady hand that I rely on to make sense and clear my head after all the “experts” have been jabbering at me, THANKS.
Re: Your Mutual Fund. Because of you, I got the courage to buy stocks and leave the Mutual Fund junle behind.
folks: our developer has looked at the issue of the portfolios not showing up and we believe we’ve resolved the issue. If it continues to happen please try a Shift + Refresh, which should clear your browser and make way for all the changes we’ve introduced. Thanks, as always, for your emails and feedback.

Jim, Huh, weird, I still don’t see the 50 Best or the Dividend Portfolio. I only see the Jubak Picks Portfolio. Maybe it is my browser. They showed up fine before this update, but now are gone. I am using IE 7. I’ll send your team a snapshot of my screen showing what I see. Thanks for the update though.
The ticker box does not show me volume, price-to-earnings ratio or dividend information. I only see the ticker, current price, today’s change and % change. It cycles through the portfolios. I have no control as to shich portfolio to see and there is no way for me to enter a ticker symbol. The only interaction I have is to pause and continue the display of this information. Is this the way is is supposed to behave? (Running Windows 7 x64 with Internet Explorer 8)
Mari sorry but I can’t do anything if Yahoo feeds us the wrong info–that’s where the data in the quote box comes from. In my experience it’s critical to check the quoted yield of any stock that pays dividends outside the normal pattern of once a quarter. Most software assumes that the most recent payment it has seen is a quarterly rate and just multiplies by 4 to get an annual rate. Doesn’t work at all for AT.
fblatnick, the printer friendly button is the small icon at the top of each post–looks like a printer. Way to the right. Lined up with the bottom of the headline/top of the photo
Skeet, I think your eyes are deceiving you. Those two portfolios are where they’ve always been in the top navigation bar.
What happended to the 50 Best Stocks portfolio and the Dividend Portfolio? I don’t see them anywhere. Did they disappear? or are my eyes just deceiving me?
Where is the printer freindly button?
ERROR on stock quote info. Requested quote for
AT. Div. yield is way off. Co. pays .09 monthly, which is abt. 7.9 yield. Quote lists 2.9 yield. Yahoo gets it right on its site, but not here.
After a quick run through the site improvements look to be worthwhile.
Thanks to all and keep up the good work.
Jim,
Just a big THANKYOU for being one of the good guys.

Glad to hear the news on the site improvements! I am with lasercrafting and would also like to see Jubax on Sharebuilder (my broker of choice).
Looking forward to the enhancements, Jim. Also looking forward to when I can buy your mutual fund through Fidelity.
Jim, I appreciate your website! I’m a new investor and find your advice works for me better than anyone else – and I need advice! Looking forward to the new features. Any idea the Jubax fund will be offered on Sharebuilder any time soon?
When I read that GM earned something like $2 billion “attributable to common shareholders” I lost all interest in hearing about GM’s IPO.
“Attributable to common shareholders”? What is that? Oh I get it, others besides shareholders are eating from the earnings table. So not only must I invest in the hopes I don’t get screwed by management or the government, but I must also hope the common shareholders get whatever earnings should be properly “attributable” to them.
Who will decide that?
God knows what other stakeholders are getting in the deal, what amount (proportionally) of GM’s future earnings will be “attributable” to them versus the common shareholders, or whether the government, the unions, the bondholders, or anyone or anything else will be able to dictate what is “attributable” to whom.
Jim, speaking for myself only, I’d rather you spend your precious time on more productive pursuits- skipping rocks, watching the grass grow, etc.
Jim,
I know that I (and I am pretty sure others) would like to hear your thoughts on the upcoming GM IPO. From what I am reading it should be one of the largest IPO’s in this country in a long time. Thoughts about if/when to purchase, if it is better to jump on the bandwagon early on, or let the dust settle, or avoid it like the plague. Thanks, and great work as always!
