The Shanghai stock market is closed today, Monday January 3, to observe New Year’s Day—which gives investors a chance to catch up on the market’s rather unusual reaction to a Christmas Day interest rate increase by the People’s Bank of China.
China will set the tone for global stock markets in 2011 but what message are China's stocks sending now?

cw/gn,
I have a few bucks with Fidelity and ran Jubax up the chain. I was told (early December) “don’t hold your breath” by a Sr. person at Fidelity. I gave up and opened an account with Schwab.
For whatever this is worth……
Like cwt334, I’m waiting for JUBAX to be available through Fidelity…
I agree that it is nice to see POT recover from its slide to the high 130s although it was not to nice to see it hit 160 today and then fall back to 155. I recently added Deere to my portfolio as another attempt to ride what will hopefully be a banner year in agricultural demand.
tazman,
I still have about half of my original POT position, but missed a chance to add more at around $138 recently (Was hoping for the low $130s). Oh well. I think POT and the rest of the fertilizers will move steadily up from this point on, but if POT ever gets back to $140, I’ll add more. I shouldn’t have hesitated since I’m confident on the long-term global food trend.
Oh, also, might want to update AmBev on your Jubak’s Picks page to reflect the stock split.
For some weird reason I still can’t buy JUBAX through Wells Fargo. I haven’t emailed them and asked why I can’t yet, but I’ve heard it’s a common problem. Anyone else here know why?
Jim,
Hope you had a nice break. Still looking for JUBAX to come to fidelity, I have money set aside. I hope 2011 is a good year for the country. Thanks for all your insight.
Happy 2011 folks. Here’s hoping you held on to your Potash shares despite Jim and the Ed McGonigle prognosticationals, lol. I am seeing $159 on my screen today if I am not mistaken. Someone asked about Terra Nitrogen back in December. You may know this, but most nitrogen fertilzer starts with natural gas which has been very very cheap lately so I have to figure that with Ag demand set to rise and the production inputs inexpensive margins will be very strong. Is that priced in to the stock? I’m not sure but the Terra people look like they will have a good year. Remember this if you like to invest in Ag companies….fertilizer prices follow corn prices with a 3-6 month lag. Works every time.
