General Cable will be one of the biggest beneficiaries of investment in the electrical grid in the United States and globally. In the U.S., electric companies are projected to spend $14 billion a year over the next ten years to make up for years of underinvestment. General Cable, which once sold only into the U.S. market, has expanded internationally; in 2007 only 45% of sales came from North America. (Full disclosure: I own shares of General Cable in my personal portfolio.)
