Novo-Nordisk, a long time favorite in my portfolios, also trades as an ADR with the symbol NVO. (Full disclosure-I also have NYSE (NVX) as a buy.)

Jim, I enjoy your continued thoughts, but your agribusiness external costs have inaccuracies. Starting in the 80's when the commodity markets tanked, US agriculture was forced to "do more with less". That meant revisiting plowing.

Most farmers now use no-till or minimum-till practices to reduce fuel costs, soil compaction, and soil erosion. Enablers of these conservation practices was increased usage of herbicide and fertilizer (no need for 4 trips across the field to reduce weeds with cultivation when Roundup killed it 95% of the competitive weeds in one pass). It also reduced labor costs which was needed as farm labor left for other employment.

In the past decade, GPS and more accurate field mapping has allowed those farmers with capital available for technology to reduce fertilizer and herbicide use (and costs) by not overlapping application. It also allows variable application of fertilizer in the same field to needed areas. Those farmers that do not adopt efficient practices are less profitable and over time end up leaving farming. Neighboring farms then tend to take over that land to grow their operation in order to spread their equipment/technology costs across more acres. At some point those family farms form an LLC and become the devil in the public discussion and are then labeled "corporate".

Jim, excellent analysis, as always. The snowballing of diabetes in the U.S. also suggests an increasing need for dialysis services. It should also be noted that that doctors are prone to prescribe drugs or surgical procedures instead of encouraging patients to take steps toward healthier life styles, thus playing in the hands of the drug industry and their own pecuniary interests.
