[...] All that, according to the textbooks, should be flooding the economy with money. And that’s exactly what you’re supposed to do to get the economy running again and to avoid turning the Great Recession into a rerun of the Great Depression. (And if you need a reminder about a recovery going into reverse, try my soothing story on the recession of 1937.) [...]

I really like this artical as a history lesson
It goes into my collection of reality checks.
Whenever I think I know what the market is
going to do next, I have my wife take out the folder with that collection and hit me on the head with it.

From Wikipedia: Socialism refers to various theories of economic organisation advocating public or direct worker ownership and administration of the means of production and allocation of resources, and a society characterised by equal access to resources for all individuals with an egalitarian method of compensation.[1][2][3] Contrary to popular belief, socialism is not a political system; it is an economic system distinct from capitalism. (Wikipedia)

Now for my comment: government ownership of the means of production is already real (GM) and is becoming bigger and bigger as Obama seeks to control, yes to control healthcare. It is a huge part of our economy. Public option is no option. Socialism doesn't work. Capitalism does.

Jim,

I hear lots of people around the water cooler questioning the wisdom of the govt's fiscal stimulus.

I personally didn't want to experiment with what would happen if the govt didn't spend money.

The question in the back of my mind is how can Obama get the US out of recession, as well as simultaneously implement health care, and prosecute a war in Afghanistan.

I don't think it's sustainable, and I'm skeptical.

Maybe that's what people were thinking in the NY Times poll???
